From Our Learners

Responses from participants across all three courses, collected at completion and in the months following.

"I'd put off looking at my finances for years — not because I didn't care, but because every time I tried, the terminology felt designed to exclude me. The beginning course at Narai changed that. By week three I was actually reading my bank statement and understanding what the numbers meant in relation to each other. That sounds small, but it wasn't."

"The intermediate course was genuinely useful for me. I had money in three different places — a Thai fund, an offshore account from a previous employer, and some property — and I'd never actually sat down and thought about them as a whole picture. The portfolio template they gave us forced me to do that. The third individual session was probably the most valuable hour of the entire programme."

"What I valued most about the advanced programme was how it handled the estate and family conversation topics. That's the part most financial courses skip entirely — how to actually talk to your spouse and your adult children about what you want to happen. The family communication coach was clear-headed and practical, not sentimental. She helped me think through a conversation I'd been avoiding for two years."

"I was initially unsure about the price of the beginning course. Looking back, I think about what I spent in the previous five years on financial decisions I made without really understanding them — that comparison makes the course fee look very reasonable. The workbook alone is something I've returned to several times since finishing."

"I completed the advanced programme in late 2024. The in-person sessions in Bangkok were the highlight for me — the chance to sit in the same room with the other six participants and talk through what we'd each worked on. The group was small enough that everyone contributed. One session in particular, where we discussed how to structure conversations with our children about inheritance, ended up going overtime because nobody wanted to stop."

"The intermediate course did something I hadn't expected: it made me realise how much of my anxiety about money came from not actually knowing what I had. Once I had everything in the portfolio template and reviewed it with the instructor, some of my concerns turned out to be smaller than I thought. Others turned out to be real. But at least I was dealing with what was actually there."

Learning Journeys

Three longer accounts, shared with permission, that describe what brought people to Narai Studies and how their thinking changed over the course of their programme.

The Starting Point

A 47-year-old manager in Bangkok. Had a provident fund, a savings account, a life insurance policy from 2009, and a feeling that her finances were "roughly okay but unexamined." Had never used a budget in her adult life.

During the Course

Completed the beginning course. Discovered her 2009 insurance policy had accumulated surrender value she hadn't known about, and that her provident fund allocation was in a default option she'd never reviewed. Made no immediate changes — but completed the workbook and began tracking cashflow monthly.

Six Months Later

Enrolled in the intermediate course. By this point had three months of cashflow data and a clearer picture of what was actually available to save each month. Described the beginning course as "the thing that made the intermediate course possible."

The Starting Point

A 54-year-old business owner from Pathum Thani. Owned commercial property, held funds across three Thai and one overseas account, and had never written a will. Was approaching the advanced programme directly after speaking to us at an enquiry call.

During the Programme

Completed the fourteen-week advanced programme. The Thai inheritance attorney module brought clarity on how his mixed property and fund holdings would be treated under Thai succession law — something he had assumed incorrectly for years. Completed the financial organisation binder over six weeks with regular individual sessions.

Outcome

Left the programme with a binder covering all asset categories, a draft letter of wishes for his family, and a scheduled appointment with a Thai notary. Used the post-course advisory correspondence three times over the following year to work through specific questions.

The Starting Point

A married couple in their early fifties, both professionals, who enrolled in the intermediate course together. They had separate accounts, different risk tolerances, and had never had a structured conversation about retirement planning.

During the Course

Discovered significant overlap in their fund holdings — effectively holding the same asset across different accounts without realising it. Used the individual sessions separately to think through personal goals before sharing them with each other in the final group session of the course.

What They Said

"We'd been talking around this for years. The course gave us a shared vocabulary and a shared document. That changed the conversation between us more than any other single thing."
